Kindergarten

The kindergarten year is considered to be one of the great growth and development. It is important that each child is introduced to developmentally appropriate activities. Our program is structured to help each child grow in self-confidence, socialization, awareness of the world, and respect for others in a Christ-centered environment. Realizing that parents are the primary educators, the kindergarten program encourages parental involvement. Many opportunities are available for parent participation.

Religion
Kindergarten students will learn through stories, activities, prayer, discussion and reflection about God and their Catholic faith. Catholic values are discussed and integrated in all subject areas throughout the day.
Social Studies
Students will explore social studies in order to develop an awareness of the people around them, different cultures, their nation and their environment. The program will be enhanced by incorporating Inquiry-Based Learning Units and the use of literature.
Language Arts/Reading
The Rowland Reading Program (SuperKids) is a comprehensive Language Arts Program that includes reading, writing, speaking, listening and the enjoyment of literature. It is an integrated, multimodal approach to learning that helps children to practice critical reading skills in the learning style that fits their unique needs.
Mathematics
Kindergarten students acquire knowledge of math skills through the use of hands on experience. A partial list of activities include: sorting and classifying, identifying patterns and geometric shapes, using manipulatives to solve simple problems, and how to use a calendar, clock and money.
Science
Students use hand-on activities to explore science in the world around them. They will learn through predicting, observing, questions and explaining.
Technology and Reference Skills
Though the use of computers, projections and software tools, children will have the opportunity to explore and develop a beginning foundation in technology.
