Welcome to 7th Grade!

Hello!  My name is Mary Hansen.  I am very excited to begin my third year here at Divine Providence School.  For the past two years I have been the technology coordinator/teacher, middle school Social Studies and Religion, and 7th grade homeroom teacher.  This year I will be teaching 5th through 8th grade Religion and 6th through 8th grade Social Studies.

For as long as I can remember I have wanted to become a teacher.  In Kindergarten, when prompted with the question of what I would do when I grew up, I remember writing “I want to be a teacher during the day and a singer at night”.  The closest I came to a singing career was performing at Disney World with my High School Choir…  From then on I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Secondary Education from Dominican University in River Forest.  I love to coach and play volleyball and look forward to the Faculty vs. 8th grade volleyball game during Catholic Schools Week every year.

This year will be an exciting one!  I cannot wait to get started with the 6th grade Inquiry Unit on Ancient Civilizations.  The students will become archaeologists and use their new iPads to discover clues about the ancient world!  I also look forward to preparing the 8th grade class to receive the sacrament of Confirmation and learn all about the Constitution.  The 7th grade will participate in the History Fair and research the exciting theme of Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History!  Looking forward to another great year!
