Welcome to 6th Grade!

Hello! My name is Krista Johnson, and I’m the sixth grade homeroom teacher here at Divine Providence. I also teach junior-high school reading, English, and vocabulary. This is my fourth year here at DP, as well as my forth year teaching.  I feel blessed to be apart of such an amazing community. The faculty, staff, students, and parents all work together wonderfully to create a positive environment where students are able to grow intellectually and spiritually.

I graduated from Dominican University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Education. Growing up, I was convinced I would be a prosecuting attorney so I could make the world a better place by putting all the bad guys in jail (I was really into Law and Order). However, after being inspired by my eighth-grade English teacher, I decided I’d be better able to make a difference in the world by teaching. Reading and writing were my favorite pastimes, school-supply shopping was the most exciting time of year, and I actually enjoyed school projects. Teaching seemed like the right path. I’m happy to say I made the right decision. My job is never boring.

I love teaching junior high. My students continually amaze me. They are trying to figure out who they are, stay true to their values, and are brimming with potential to achieve their dreams. They are also so much fun! They can be funny, sarcastic, and are always open to new ideas. I learn just as much from them as they learn from me. I look forward to a great year filled with exciting new things: Ipads, Rosetta Stone, 21st Century Inquiry Units, honor programs, and good-old diagramming sentences. I can’t wait to dive into novels, begin our writing portfolios, and play fun review games on the SmartBoard! This year is destined to be a fantastic and innovative year.
